Olamide Biography

Olamide Gbenga Adedeji, popularly known as Olamide, was born on March 15, 1989, in Bariga, Lagos State, Nigeria. Growing up in a vibrant and culturally rich environment, he discovered his passion for music early, writing lyrics and rapping as a young teen. Olamide briefly studied Mass Communication at Tai Solarin University of Education but had to drop out due to financial constraints, choosing instead to fully pursue his music career. He officially entered the Nigerian music scene in 2010 with his debut single “Eni Duro,” a track blending Yoruba and English that earned him recognition and a spot at the 2010 Hip Hop World Awards. In 2011, he released his first studio album, Rapsodi, which established him as a rising star in the Nigerian music industry. In 2012, Olamide founded his own record label, YBNL Nation, and released his second album, YBNL, featuring hits like “First of All” and “Voice of the Street,” which cemented his status as both an artist and an influential music executive. Over the years, Olamide’s discography has showcased his versatility and consistency. He released Baddest Guy Ever Liveth in 2013, Street OT in 2014, Eyan Mayweather in 2015, The Glory in 2016, Lagos Nawa in 2017, Carpe Diem in 2020, UY Scuti in 2021, Unruly in 2023, and Olamidé in 2025. His music blends hip-hop, Afrobeat, street-pop, and Afro-fusion, often performed in Yoruba with English phrases, giving his work both local authenticity and broad appeal. Beyond his music, Olamide has mentored upcoming artists through YBNL Nation, helping to shape the modern Nigerian music scene. Olamide is also known for balancing his public career with family life; he is married to Adebukunmi Adedeji, and they have children together.
