Rema Biography

Divine Ikubor., professionally known as Rema, was born on May 1, 2000, in Benin City, Nigeria. He grew up in a Christian household and developed an early passion for music while attending secondary school.

Rema often participated in church activities where he sang and rapped, drawing inspiration from different musical influences including Afrobeats, hip-hop, and trap music.

Rema’s musical journey began gaining attention when he started sharing freestyle videos on social media. One of his freestyle clips over the song “Gucci Gang” went viral online and caught the attention of Nigerian superstar D'banj, who later connected him with music executive Don Jazzy. Shortly after, Rema signed a record deal with Mavin Records in 2019, officially launching his professional music career.

His breakthrough came in 2019 with the release of his self-titled debut project Rema EP, which featured the hit single Dumebi. The song quickly became popular across Nigeria and beyond, introducing his unique blend of Afrobeats, trap, and melodic pop. Following this success, he released additional projects including Rema Freestyle EP and Bad Commando, further establishing him as one of the leading voices of the new generation of African artists.

Rema’s international recognition expanded with the release of his debut studio album Rave & Roses in 2022, which featured the global hit Calm Down. The remix featuring Selena Gomez became one of the most successful Afrobeats songs worldwide, topping charts and gaining billions of streams across digital platforms. Since then,
